In short: Compulsive sexual behaviour disorder is recognised by the World Health Organization in ICD-11. Signs include repeated failed attempts to stop, spending more time on it than you intend, and carrying on despite harm to your relationship, work or self-respect. Urban Recovery offers confidential outpatient help: an assessment, the REBUILD programme, recovery coaching and free weekly groups. You can start privately with the free Sexual Behaviour Audit.
Signs it has become a problem
- You keep promising yourself it’s the last time
- It takes more time than you intend, often late at night
- You need more extreme content, or more risk, to feel the same
- You use it to escape stress, loneliness or low mood
- You feel shame afterwards, and the shame pulls you back to it
- It’s hurting your relationship, sleep or work
- You hide it from your partner
If a few of these sound familiar, take the free Sexual Behaviour Audit. It’s private, takes a few minutes, and nothing is saved or sent.
How Urban Recovery helps
Most treatment focuses on getting you to stop. We focus on what comes after: rebuilding your health, relationships, purpose and habits, so you build a life you don’t need to escape from. You stay at home and keep working while you do it.
- Assessment (R750, 45 minutes): a confidential conversation with Steven that looks at the whole picture and gives you a clear plan.
- REBUILD programme (8 months, one afternoon a week, R3 850 a month): 12 practical modules in a small group, in Centurion or on Zoom.
- Recovery coaching (R850 a session): one-on-one support with goals and accountability.
- Monday support groups (free): every Monday from 19:00 in Centurion or on Zoom, for you and the people who love you.
Why willpower isn’t enough
Shame keeps people stuck: you act out, feel bad, hide it, and the stress pushes you back. Filters and willpower help, but lasting change comes from understanding what you’re escaping from, building healthier ways to cope, and having people you can be honest with.
For partners
Finding out can be devastating. You deserve support too, whatever you decide about the relationship. Our Monday groups are open to partners and family, and Nanette offers recovery coaching for families.
Common questions
Is porn addiction real?
The World Health Organization includes compulsive sexual behaviour disorder in ICD-11. Whatever you call it, if you can’t stop despite real harm, it’s worth getting help. Read Porn addiction: is it real, and why isn’t willpower enough?.
Will anyone know I came to you?
Yes. What you share stays with us and isn’t shared with your employer, family or anyone else without your consent, except where the law requires it, such as an immediate risk to life. We also don’t claim from medical aid, so your treatment stays off your medical record. Sessions can also be done online.
Is the programme faith-based?
REBUILD combines psychology with spiritual principles, and faith is one of the anchors we explore. You don’t need to be religious to join, and nothing is forced on you.
What does it cost?
Assessment: R750 once-off. REBUILD programme: R3 850 a month for 8 months, or R25 500 once-off. Recovery coaching: R850 a session. Monday groups: free. See all treatment options.
