DAGGA & CANNABIS ADDICTION HELP
Dagga is legal. That doesn’t mean it’s working for you.
Outpatient support for people who want to stop using cannabis and get their motivation, sleep and focus back. In Centurion and online across South Africa.
Confidential assessment · R750 · In person in Centurion or online

In short: Cannabis can be addictive. Signs include using daily, struggling to stop, and losing motivation, focus or interest in things you used to enjoy. Quitting can bring a few weeks of irritability, poor sleep and cravings, which usually ease. Urban Recovery helps as an outpatient, with an assessment, the REBUILD programme, recovery coaching and free Monday groups.
Signs cannabis has become a problem
- You use most days, or first thing in the morning
- You’ve tried to take a break and were back at it within days
- You can’t sleep, eat or relax without it
- Work, study or training has slipped and your motivation has gone
- You’ve stopped doing things you used to enjoy
- You feel anxious, paranoid or low after using
- People close to you have said they’re worried
If a few of these sound familiar, take the free Drug Abuse Screening Audit. It’s private, takes a few minutes, and nothing is saved or sent.
How Urban Recovery helps
Most treatment focuses on getting you to stop. We focus on what comes after: rebuilding your health, relationships, purpose and habits, so you build a life you don’t need to escape from. You stay at home and keep working while you do it.
- Assessment (R750, 45 minutes): a confidential conversation with Steven that looks at the whole picture and gives you a clear plan.
- REBUILD programme (8 months, one afternoon a week, R3 850 a month): 12 practical modules in a small group, in Centurion or on Zoom.
- Recovery coaching (R850 a session): one-on-one support with goals and accountability.
- Monday support groups (free): every Monday from 19:00 in Centurion or on Zoom, for you and the people who love you.
What stopping is like
After regular use, many people feel irritable, restless or low and sleep badly for the first couple of weeks. Vivid dreams and cravings are common. It’s uncomfortable rather than dangerous, and it passes. Having a plan and support for those weeks makes a big difference.
A note on mental health
Daily use of high-potency cannabis is linked to a higher risk of psychosis (Di Forti et al., The Lancet Psychiatry, 2019). If you notice paranoia, hearing or seeing things others don’t, or feeling cut off from reality, see a doctor promptly.
Common questions
Is dagga actually addictive?
It can be. Not everyone who uses becomes dependent, but the risk is much higher with daily use. Read Dagga is legal now. So is it actually addictive?.
It’s legal now, so why does it matter?
Legal and harmless aren’t the same thing. Alcohol is legal too. What matters is whether it’s costing you more than it gives: your motivation, your relationships, your health or your money.
Can my family get support too?
Yes. Our Monday groups are free and open to partners, parents and family members, and Nanette offers recovery coaching for families. Read Helping or enabling? A guide for families.
What does it cost?
Assessment: R750 once-off. REBUILD programme: R3 850 a month for 8 months, or R25 500 once-off. Recovery coaching: R850 a session. Monday groups: free. See all treatment options.
